Nell Crain : "The Haunting of Hill House" Costume Inspiration Boards

Im cleaning up my laptop and found the original inspiration boards I presented to Mike Flanagan and the Studio(Paramount and Amblin in this case). These boards are a crucial part of how I approach the character costume design. I spend weeks looking for the right images and assemble them, almost like a feeling, a puzzle, and a discovery. Each time I add, edit or move items around, the force of the character comes through eventually. I will post the characters in their young and adult selves. Here is Nell Crain, the youngest sib of The Haunting of Hill House—played by the incredible Victoria Pedretti.

The overalls were reallly important and if you notice, both Young Nell and Adult Nell wore the overalls to link them and make them more recognizable

Sweaters with open-stitch interest were really important and felt right for Nell’s fragility and empathy
