The Lady of the Lake: A loss of detail

One of the challenges to (Lady of the Lake)Viola’s costume was to consider how her ghost would disappear. As the ghosts of Bly wandered through millennia, they would lose the features of their faces. I wanted to parallel this rule in the costume, and have the effect of a “fading” of detail” but the stunts were more complex so there wasn’t much we could do with each aging version of the ghosts…. I decided to choose fabrics and trimmings that had significant texture, and would have the ability to be pulled away towards a certain type of blanking out of detail. Lace melted away until it left just a shadow of itself. Viola and Perdita, the original ladies of the manor—where also the oldest, so we had a significant fading. I will post Perdita later because that was a very cool process!
